1.
And I’m riding on a midnight train To cover my sins, and carry all their weight away And I’m driving in a haunted car, not getting very far The devil’s in my head again The stars are gonna fall And the lights are gonna bend, just to shake your fate The nights are gonna break, with a devil to face And you’re smilin’ Now I’m riding in a horseless race The bridle and the reins, are wresting all my strength away So come on, and tell me what to do Feel desperate when I lose – and arguing my soul Won’t save me from you The stars are gonna fall And the lights are gonna bend, just to shake your faith The nights are gonna come, with the devil to face And you’re smilin’ And I’m waiting on a midnight train To cover all my sins, and bury my heart away So I’m thinking up broken war Does it matter anymore If all I ever do, is say I love you? The stars are gonna fall The walls are gonna sway, from the sudden weight And further down the line, there’s an empty heart And it bears your name The stars are gonna fall And the nights are gonna come, with a devil for you to face There’s so much to lose, but you’re smilin’

Chicago 04:10
Goodbye Now I’m leaving these long lines I’m headed for the daylight It’s taken me a real long time Take me for a ride And cover up my eyes Cause I want you to see How blind that I can be Chicago, you’re making me lonely again But I know, that you never really loved me Hello my only friend What’s your name again? You’ve got something in your shoes I never thought you’d ever lose Goodbye my home sweet state I never really suffered about your fate Cause the memories that came and went Were never really meant for me Chicago, you’re making me lonely again But I know, that you never really loved me Chicago, you’re making me lonely But all I want to know Is the miles and miles of road And all I want to really do Is fall in love with you And all I want to really do Is fall in love with you

Television Sun (free) 04:44
I see you in, the strangest light around As the bombs begin, to bully out the sounds So tell me it’s alright if I am faced With loneliness and courage just the same As I’m staring at the television sun Stop signs and boulevards Bright lights, movie stars Out on the sidewalk that I am living on Cocaine and caviar The street lights are breathing hard And the crowd shakes far beneath my feet But it’s not who you are It’s what you believe, it’s what you’re fighting for And it’s not who you wish you were It’s what you believe, and what you’re fighting for I’ve seen you in the darkest part of town When the stars begin to illuminate the ground I’m hoping to recover from the fire The courage that I thought I had acquired So I ‘m staring in to the television sun Stop signs and boulevards Bright lights, movie stars Out on the sidewalk that I am living on Cocaine and caviar The street lights are breathing hard And the crowd stays far away from me But it’s not who you are I’s what you believe, it’s what you’re fighting for And it’s not who you wish you were It’s what you believe, and what you’re fighting for It’s what you believe, it’s what you’re fighting for It’s what you believe, it’s whats worth fighting for

The Holiday 04:23
I WILL CHERISH ALL THE SCARS THAT SAIL INTO MY ARMS AND ANCHOR THEM CLOSE TO MY SOUL SO SHOW ME THE HEART THAT IS LONELY AND COLD AND I WILL LOVE IT FOREVER ALL THE MEMORIES, ARE SLOWLY, DRIFTING AWAY BUT THE WORDS THAT ARE SPOKEN, THEY WILL ALWAYS REMAIN AND THE STARS COME ALIVE, TO RESCUE MY SOUL AND WE ALL WILL DREAM OF THE HOLIDAY I HAVE SEEN IN THE LIGHT, OF THE LONELIEST STARS A HOPE FOR THE LONELIEST SOULS SO SHOW ME THE EYES, THAT JUDGE AND ARE BLIND AND I WILL LOVE THEM FOREVER ALL THE MEMORIES, ARE SLOWLY, DRIFTING AWAY BUT THE WORDS THAT ARE SPOKEN, THEY WILL ALWAYS REMAIN AND THE STARS COME ALIVE, TO RESCUE MY SOUL AND WE ALL WILL DREAM OF THE HOLIDAY AND WE ALL WILL DREAM OF THE HOLIDAY AND WE ALL WILL DREAM OF THE HOLIDAY AND WE ALL WILL DREAM OF THE HOLIDAY
6.
I’ve been watching, lonely couples And I’ve been breathing, in all their troubles Won’t you see, I can barely breathe I can barely scream So I’ve been painting in broken strokes But I will wait for you, and hope That you see, what’s blinding me Where you gonna go when you’re alone? Where you gonna go when you’re alone? Will you find your way To a better place, that you know Where you gonna go when you’re alone? Where you gonna go when you’re alone? Will you find your way To a better place Will you make your way where you can erase What you know So I’ve been watching, lonely couples And I’ve been drinking in all their troubles But I’m still hoping for something special Oo oo, oo ooh, ooo oh... Where you gonna go when you’re alone? Where you gonna go when you’re alone?

Carry On 01:46
I believe in the stones that we’ve thrown It’s hard to say which of those we have lost in the road But here’s where the story takes a turn I have dreamt of the tallest wave That carries over mountains and washes us away But here’s where the story takes a turn Oooooh, carry on, carry on Oooooh, carry on, carry on Oooooh, carry on, carry on

about

The Secret Society & White Star Bands.
Honestly I could not have assembled a more talented group of lifers.  People who inspire my faith in this art, time and time again.  I do not think I could give you a song by song breakdown of who played exactly what.  We set up a room full of instruments, mics and amps, and literally jumped between them from song to song.  The only rule I had was that no one got to hear the song before we recorded them.  I would strum the song through once, and the band would jump over to whatever instruments felt right.  It was a liberating departure from my usual painstaking and laborious efforts in dissecting and re-dissecting my songs.  So what you hear, with a few exceptions for an overdubbed string or harmony part, is what was recorded on that day, sans click tracks.  Chicago and Television Sun, re-envisioned for the Secret Society Session, have been in my catalog for some time.  So I felt their original spirit needed to be captured as well, which I did in Charlottesville at White Star Sound.  You can find them tacked at the back end of the EP.  All of these songs were begun under the guise of another album, Magnificent Ram A, whose birth is soon to follow.  I am thankful to these wonderful musicians and friends, along with my Kickstarter brethren who helped get the ball rolling.  Thanks also to Little Sue and Bree Sharp for their beautiful voices.  Lastly but of no small note, the artwork of Javier Pinon which graces the cover, has been a great inspiration for the theme of the new music here and to come.  Javier was quite kind in his lending of these images to my music.  Thanks also to Amanda at AIC Entertainment for her unbending support, and to the tireless staff of Velvet Elk Records.  - Don, May 2012
